Allan Gilbreath ... Allan Gilbreath ...
... from Kerlak Publishing
on speculative fiction and publishing in the US

zur deutschen Übersetzung Being a small publisher seems to be a real (ad)venture. If so, Allan Gilbreath is on a longterm-adventure. He is the founder of Kerlak Publishing, a small publisher in the US, actively supporting several cons in his "private identity", writes himself in a group of authors called "Hellions" ...

With Kerlak, Allan Gilbreath tries to be slightly different from the rest of the bookmarket. A bold statement that made me curious to find out, if Kerlak can life up to this statement. But see for yourself:

(Part 1)

Zur deutschen ÜbersetzungWe already have had an q&a on wednesday with Janet and Chris Morris as well as Tempus Thales. But our readers are curious, too.

We have called our readers, to ask question at the writers and Tempus Thales. This has been very successful. Janet, Chris and Tempus responded. Here is the result ...

Garrison, Darwin - Skipping Stones

Skipping StonesSkipping Stones
by Darwin Garrison

I just finished Darwin Garrison's short story "Skipping Stones" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been reading science fiction for a number of decades so I ask: "Have there been other stories about races between starships? Huge payoff... assuming you survive long enough to win." Yes.

But this story contains adventure, excitement, romance, sabotage and redemption all wrapped up together in a very nice package. "Skipping Stones" is very-well paced, never bogs down and keeps your interest right up to the final surprise. Oh, and it's written in a wry, humorous voice.  I recommend this story to anyone who likes science fiction - but I refuse to call it a "space opera" (which apparently now applies to anything with FTL travel) because this is just a good, fun, interesting science fiction story.

Garrison, Darwin - Black Feather, Bright Heart

Black Feather, Bright HeartBlack Feather, Bright Heart
by Darwin Garrison

This is a very well-constructed, moving short story that carries the reader from a bucolic reality to the truly terrifying world of the fae and back again.

Mirram has returned to her original human form after walking the Glimmering Path to revenge the slaughter of her entire family when she was just a child. She had become weary of revenge and wished to live a simple, human life as a baker and healer, giving up the terrible powers as the fae Lady Nightwing, releasing her hold on the crows and ravens that answered her will. But Lady Nightwing's brother and sister fae wish her to return to their realm and send their minions against her village to force her to step back on the Glimmering Path and take up her sword again.

Cordova, Jason - Corruptor

CorruptorCorruptor
by Jason Cordova

"Corruptor" by Jason Cordova is a mystery/thriller set in an interactive virtual reality construct.  The most popular, multi-player game system on earth is compromised while several hundred people around the world are connected to the game by VR headsets, thus rendering them the largest group of hostages in history.  The hackers/blackmailers set it up so that if anyone tries to take off a player's game gear before the blackmailers get what they want, the player dies instead of just waking up to reality as usual.

Jason Cordova has created a virtual reality game with such specificity that readers may, at first, not realize the characters they encounter are actually mentally interacting in a shared, VR universal world game.  Time is a major factor because, while in the game world, players sit immobile, unable to eat or drink.

Janet und Chris Morris... Janet und Chris Morris ...
... on writing, publishing, horses, »Heroes in Hell«  and - of course - Tempus Thales

zur deutschen Übersetzung Janet Morris was in the eighties and early nineties, one of the leading female writers of SF and Fantasy. But she interrupted her career as a writer for Strategic Studies and a company for non-lethal weapons.

In 2010, she returned with her novel THE SACRED BAND and now she writes again together with her husband Chris. This is reason enough for some questions …
