DCnU – The New 52...

Haie müssen schwimmen, sonst ersticken sie. Das gilt nicht nur für die Raubtierkönige der Meere, sondern auch für jeden Markt der sich mit dem Verkauf von Unterhaltungsmedien beschäftigt. Der amerikanische Comicmarkt ist wieder einmal im finanziellen Abwind gefangen und die Verlage kämpfen um jedes Stück Land, welches es im Bereich der Leser noch zu gewinnen gibt. Seit 2002 hat der Gigant Marvel DC jedes Quartal an Umsatz übertreffen können. Dies lag zum einen an den groß angelegten Events wie CIVIL WAR und Co., zum anderen an der fast schon übermenschlichen Kinopräsenz der Marvel-Superhelden.

Marvel gelang es sogar solche eher weltweit unbekannten Figuren wie GHOST RIDER und DAREDEVIL in das Augenmerk der Öffentlichkeit zu transportieren. Und ich rede hier von Leuten die noch nie einen Comic in der Hand gehalten haben...

DC verließ sich hingegen auf seine Ikonen - zu denen SUPERMAN, BATMAN und WONDER WOMAN zählen – um sich Verkaufszahlen zu sichern. Doch durch zu viele CRISIS und andere Events, die nicht wirklich zu befriedigenden Ergebnissen führten, verrannte man sich immer mehr. Den Tod von BATMAN schaffte man nicht so medienwirksam zu vermarkten wie den Tod SUPERMANs 1993. Sogar Marvels DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA und dessen Rückkehr war glaubwürdiger als die Rückkehr des dunklen Ritters.

BATMAN durfte sich immer mehr verirren, so das es nun 2 BATMAN gibt und BRUCE WAYNE eine Stiftung ins Leben gerufen hat die weltweit eine Gruppe von Pseudo-Batman unterstützt: BATMAN INC.. Die Verkaufszahlen schienen nicht wirklich zu steigen und so trug man selbst das WILDSTORM-Universum - das 50ste Universum des DC-Multiverse – Ende 2010 zu Grabe. Jim Lee – der Vater der WILDSTORM-Helden - wurde zum Co-Publisher gemacht und bekam so eine große Zahl an Möglichkeiten, welche wohl nun ausgeschöpft werden sollen und das ganz im Sinne der Lieblingszahl von DC: 52.

Im August 2011 werden die letzten Ausgaben der bisherigen Superheldencomics, in gewohnter Nummerierung, erscheinen und ab September 2011 tritt das DCnU (DC new Universe) ans Licht.

Nicht jeder Held blickt hier mit einer #1 erneut dem geneigten Leser entgegen. Alles wurde einem Update unterzogen und auch die Kostüme wurden von „leicht“ bis „unerkennbar“ verändert. Die Handschrift der neuen Kostüme ist eindeutig Jim Lee zuzuschreiben und man erkennt seinen Stil deutlich wieder. Besonders scheint er Wert auf Kragen gelegt zu haben, denn viele der männlichen Heroen (SUPERMAN, GREEN LANTERN...) haben nun den Hals versteckt.

Viel kann man noch nicht über die kommenden Serien urteilen, nur die Titelbilder und die vagen Klappentexte – inklusive Writer/Artist - sind bisher veröffentlicht worden - siehe unten.

Positiv ist bei mir angekommen das es nur noch einen BATMAN geben wird und sich DICK GRAYSON wieder auf seine Rolle als NIGHTWING zurück besinnen wird. Auch sind die meisten Künstlerteams sehr lesenswert. Dan Jurgens hat schon ein paar Jahrzehnte Erfahrung im DCU hinter sich und somit werden die JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL und GREEN ARROW davon zweifelsohne profitieren können.

Das Jim Lee ein monatliches Heft artistisch bewältigen kann, ist fraglich, genau so wie der Umstand das man Rob Liefeld die Möglichkeit gegeben hat wieder für DC zu arbeiten. Liefeld ist bekannt dafür Deadlines gerne mal lächelnd platzen zu lassen und sehr unzuverlässig zu sein – doch könnte sich dies ja evtl. geändert haben, was spannend zu beobachten sein wird. Dave Finch hatte ja schon die ersten Berührungen (Writer & Artist) mit dem DARK KNIGHT in einer eigenständigen Serie, deren Ausgaben immer wieder nach hinten verschoben wurden und welche dann schlussendlich mit einem separaten Zeichner beendet wurde. Nun bekommt er die gleiche Serie wieder unter seine Fittiche – some things will never change?

Der wohl interessanteste Neuzugang an DC-Zeichnern dürfte wohl Greg Capullo sein. Gerade hat er einn Run auf Image Comics HAUNT beendet und gleich bekommt er den Goldbatzen ab: BATMAN. Da sein Stil ohnehin sehr dark ist und Capullo sich mit zwielichtigen Helden auskennt, hat man da wohl den richtigen Gärtner für das arg gebeutelte Beet GOTHAM CITY gefunden.

Aus der GENERATION LOST entsteht die JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL, wieder mit Aaron Lopresti als Zeichner – ebenfalls eine gute Wahl, aus meiner subjektiven Sicht. Die Ankündigungen, bezüglich des Man Of Steel, haben mich doch ein wenig geschockt. Bleibt abzuwarten ob sich SUPEMAN hier wieder selber findet, was er ja schon mit „Grounded“ nicht geschafft hat. Ebenso werden sich die TEEN TITANS beweisen müssen, denn es reicht nicht nur neue Kostüme zu bekommen um auch zu überzeugen. Kann BARBARA GORDON wieder ihren Weg in das Kostüm von BATGIRL finden? Unter der schriftlichen Leitung von Gail Simone (BIRDS OF PREY) könnte es gelingen. Wie werden sich die reinen WILDSTORM-Charaktere in das bekannte DCU einfügen? Bisher sind VOODOO (WILDCATS), MIDNIGHTER &  APOLLO (das Gay-Couple von WILDSTORM) und GRIFTER bekannt. BATWOMAN erlebt nun endlich ihre lange verschobene #1, welche ich schon sehnlichst erwarte.

Kann sich das alles bewähren oder ist es nur einen Frage von 6 Monaten bis alles wieder in den Normalzustand verfällt? Man hat es rauschen hören das einige der beteiligte Künstler Verträge bekommen haben, welche nach 6 Monaten auslaufen – Omen oder nur Vorsicht?

Oha, ob das DC wirklich helfen wird? Diese Relaunchs sind ja nun nicht wirklich etwas Neues. Bei Marvel hat das damals ja ertsmal ein bischen die Verkaufszahlen angehoben, weil viele die Nummer 1 diverser Serien gekauft haben. Na, wartn wirs ab. So oder so danke für den informativen Artikel. Das Frankenstein Heft werde ich mir wohl auf jeden Fall kaufen.

Ich habe schon gehofft, dass sich jemand mit Kolumnen dem neuen DC-Universum annehmen wird! :-)

Nach vielen Jahren ohne Comics werde ich mich durch den Reboot auch wieder ein wenig ins DCU wagen. Am meisten interessiert mich die neue Serie "Justice League Dark", die wieder etwas düstere Elemente von Vertigo zurück zu DC bringt. Ich würde mich sehr über eine Kolumne über die bis jetzt bekannten Charaktere der JLD freuen, damit ich nicht ganz ohne Vorwissen in die Serie einsteigen muss ;-).

Ich war irgendwie verstimmt, als mein Comic-Dealer mich darauf ansprach, was da im Herbst auf uns zukommen würde.
Schon wieder so ein Gimick, dachte ich noch. Jetzt, wo ich die Cover sehe, könnte das eine oder andere Heft noch interessant sein. Freuen tue ich mich auf jeden Fall auf "Resurrectionman".

Ob es was bringt? Ich wage es zu bezweifeln.
Es müssen Geschichten her, die überzeugen. Und Einzelhefte, die zwar einen grösseren Arc haben, aber auch als Einzelheft gelesen werden können.
Ob das Business nun spürt, dass sie es mit ihren Events ausgesaugt haben, und sich viele Fans frustriert den Comics abgewendet haben?

Ich denke schon das die großen Crossover (kaufe 1234 Serien um der Story folgen zu können!) den Verlagen auch geschadet haben.

Ob sich dieser Jungbrunnen wird lange halten können, wage ich zu bezweifeln, doch könnte er trotzdem neue Leser generieren, da man sich mit einer #1 einfacher einfangen lässt als mit ACTION COMICS #900.

Da geb' ich dem Michel völlig recht - neue Kostümchen und No.1's reichen nicht.
Grafisch sind das alles gute Leute (außer Dan Jurgens - urgl), aber die Stories müssen passen und dafür braucht man erstklassige Autoren und Redakteure, die mutig genug sind gegen den Einheitsbrei anzukämpfen und das 5.000ste X-Over und Ultra-Event nicht mitzumachen.
Geoff Johns und Azzarello sind schon gute Autoren, aber vielleicht hätte man sich ja um Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Robert Kirkman, Mark Millar oder Bendis und Brubaker bemühen können...
Gut, es wird auf jeden Fall interessant zu beobachten sein, wie eine Knallcharge wie Grant Morrisson Superman beackert. Genauso hat man bei JLA mit Johns und Lee ein grundsolides Team - und wenn Johns zu JSA-Form aufläuft, könnte man sogar ein paar Highlights erwarten. Dan Jurgens hat Anfang der 90er schon mal seine Griffel an der JLA/JLI gehabt - die Stories waren so strunzlangweilige Dutzendware, dass man den tollen DeMatteis/Giffen-Stories nur leidvoll nachtrauern konnte. Ob man gut beraten ist, Paul Levitz wieder die Legion zu geben (?) - er hatte in den 80ern nette Stories geboten, aber für eine futuristische Serie erwarte ich einen visionären Autor wie Warren Ellis.
...und Barbara Gordon kann wieder laufen - aaaaargh, es ist zum Kotzen - nichts hat Bestand... alle vorherigen Geschehnisse, die wirkliche EVENTS waren sind für die Katz und degradieren eine grandiose Story wie THE KILLING JOKE zum Mumpitz.

DC hat verlauten lassen, ich glaube es war Didio, das solche Sachen wie KILLING JOKE und DEATH IN THE FAMILY passiert sind und nicht augeklammert werden. Ich denke das Babs ein Exoskelett verpasst bekommt und bald wieder ORACLE wird.

Leute wie Kirkman oder Bendis werden den Teufel tun und ihre momentanen Positionen aufgeben. Bendis kann bei Marvel eh machen was er will und Kirkmann führt Image schon fast im Alleingang.

Das Giffen/DeMattheis nicht mehr zur JLI zurück kehren war klar (auch wenn ich es schade finde) - GENERATION LOST hat gezeigt, das sich die Bwahaha-League nicht mehr verkaufen läßt. Die Serie bekam Aufwind als Giffen ausstieg.

Hmm. Mal abwarten, was sie daraus machen.
Morrisons Action Comics interessiert mich auf jeden Fall schon mal. Ich habe in den letzten Tagen mal wieder seine JLA-Sachen gelesen und die finde ich immer noch sehr gelungen. All Star Superman. Seven Soldiers of Victory. Mag sein, dass ihm bei Batman und Final Crisis einiges daneben geraten ist, aber lesenswert sind auch diese Sachen, imo.
(Adam One, SHADE und Frankenstein .. sieht aus, als würden sich einige seiner Ideen auch in den anderen Comics wieder finden, finde ich gut)

Justice League Dark.
Einfach mal abwarten.

(Ich hoffe nur, dass sie Xombi doch noch fortsetzen. Das war neben Shadow Cabinet mein Lieblingscomics aus dem Milestone-Stall und ich hatte mich sehr über die Neuauflage gefreut. Catholic Girl, Nun of the Above, ...)

Nach Jahren ohne DC-Comics werde ich den Reboot nutzen, um auch wieder ein bisschen in die Comicwelt einzusteigen.

Soso, THE KILLING JOKE und DEATH IN THE FAMILY sollen nicht ausgeklammert werden :-* - naja, man weiss ja was man von solchen Lippenbekenntnissen zu halten hat - sie sind einen feuchten Kuraz wert... Auch der Tod (?) Batmans war eben doch kein echter TOD wie viele Helden des DCU sind schon über den Jordan gewandert...nein, es sollte heissen: welcher Held des DCU hat noch nicht den Nippel abgegeben und wurde unter allerlei Humbug und Firlefanz wieder reanimiert? Der Tod hat keinen Stellenwert mehr in den Universen der beiden Comic-Dinosauerier DC und Marvel... entsprechend sind solche Events (?) eben keine solchen, sondern nur Zwischenstationen - was hat der buntgekleidete Strumpfhosenkämpfer denn zu fürchten, wenn selbst der Tod nur eine stark frequentierte U-Bahnstation zum Hades und zurück ist (?) - entsprechend belanglos erscheinen dann Ihre Abenteuer - mich reizt eigentlich gar nix von diesem ganzen DC-Restart, nicht mal mehr Animal Man und Swamp Thing, die beides so grandiose Serien waren (unter Alan Moore, Morrisson etc.), lese lieber Ennis THE BOYS und Kirkmans WALKING DEAD und INVINCIBLE.
Wegen einem Zeichner würde ich keinen Comic mehr kaufen (vielleicht wenn John Cassaday oder Gene Ha mit im Reigen wären, aber leider...leider...)
